Stop building Chatbots. Start building Agents.
I see a lot of discussion in meetings using the terms "AI Chatbot" and "AI Agent" interchangeably.
But as we operationalize AI in the enterprise, the distinction is critical.
Here is the simplest way to explain the difference to your stakeholders:
🤖 The Chatbot is a Consultant. It has read every book in the library. You can ask it for advice, strategy, or to summarize a document. But it has no hands. It cannot log into your applications, it cannot run a SQL query, and it cannot send an email. It can only talk.
🕵️ The Agent is a Digital Intern. It might not be as eloquent, but it has hands (via MCP). You give it a login and a set of tools. You don't just ask it "How do I update the inventory?"; you tell it, "Go update the inventory for SKU-123." And it does it.
Why this matters for Leaders: Chatbots provide Knowledge. Agents provide Productivity.
If your AI strategy is just "Chat with your PDF," you are building a library. If you want ROI, you need to start building agents and agentic frameworks to support them.
